Swelled by 50 guests and Festival of Chichester-goers, an audience approaching 120 witnessed a stunning performance from the Jay Phelps Quintet - a fitting finale to the club's 2014/15 season.
Playing a programme of music either written or performed by the influential Blue Note label trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, Jay treated a delighted crowd to some spectacular musicianship. Ably supported by the awsome presence of his mentor Jean Toussaint on tenor saxophone, and a young, driving rhythm section, the band demonstrated why they are such a force on today's British contemporary jazz scene.
Line-up: Jay Phelps - trumpet, Jean Toussaint - tenor saxophone, Rick Simpson - piano, Mark Lewandowski - bass, Shane Forbes - drums.
