A standing ovation comes along very occasionally at CJC but, on Friday 6 November the fireworks exploded as the Tommaso Starace Quartet brought an excited audience to its feet for the climax of what was a spell-bounding performance.
Compositions from Michel Petrucciani dominated the musical output of the evening and the innovative, melodic and creative interpretations of the French virtuoso pianist’s music by Tommaso and his band was a true delight.
Some comments from those attending said this was the best concert of the season; some the best ever! Whatever the view, it was a truly special occasion and one which prompted the club to make sure it does not wait another ten years before inviting the band back again.
Line up: Tommaso Starace – soprano and alto saxophones, Michele di Torro – piano, Al Swainger – bass, Chris Nicholls – drums.
