A regular visitor to CJC, the band hails from Dorset and Hampshire and was founded in 1972. The sound of the band is built on the unique style of John Maddocks’s clarinet playing. Originally heavily inspired by the great clarinettist Johnny Dodds, he has developed his own individual sound that makes him a popular guest star in many bands.
The Jazzmen’s line up has not changed much over the years, which contributes to their cohesiveness. Well-known for forceful and driving music that includes some seldom heard tunes in their performances, the band benefits from some fine arrangements by trumpeter Peter Wilkinson.
Full line-up: John Maddocks – clarinet and saxes, Peter Wilkinson - trumpet,
Tony Farr - trombone, Chris Satterly - piano, Dave Broomfield - guitar and banjo, Peter McCurrie - bass and tuba, Brian Barker - drums,
Guest admission: £8.
All meetings start at 7.45pm - doors open at 6.30pm
