Steve Waterman’s album Buddy Bolden Blew It! is a selection of music composed and/or performed by most of the greatest exponents of jazz trumpet, including Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miles Davis. Of the others, only four are still alive at the time of writing these notes: Clark Terry (aged 91), Kenny Wheeler (81), Tom Harrell (65), and Steve Waterman (51).
Steve’s arrangements are all based on recordings - except for Buddy’s Lament, a composition by David Hays, the album’s producer. Buddy Bolden stopped playing at the age of 30 in 1907, ten years before the first jazz recording.
Full line-up: Steve Waterman – trumpet, flugel horn, cornet, Anthony Kerr - vibraphone, Chris Allard - guitar, Alec Dankworth - bass, Dave Barry - drums.
Guest admission: £12.
All meetings start at 7.45pm - doors open at 6.30pm
