Originally founded by Michael Garrick, distinguished British pianist and composer, the MJQ Celebration represents a coming together of today’s most celebrated UK jazz musicians to pay homage to one of the most renowned jazz ensembles of all time, The Modern Jazz Quartet.
Stellar favourites such as ‘Django’, ‘The Golden Striker, ‘Bag’s Groove’ and ‘Concorde’ are given enthralling new renditions whilst staying true to the original intentions of their composers, John Lewis and Milt Jackson.
Since Michael Garrick’s untimely death, the group has recruited the fine young pianist Barry Green and has played to packed houses throughout the UK including the Purcell Room and Ronnie Scott’s.
Those of us who heard the original MJQ (and also those too young to have done so! ) will thrill to the sumptuous sound of this accomplished quartet.
Line-up: Matt Ridley - bass, Jim Hart - vibraphone, Barry Green - piano, Steve Brown - drums.
All meetings start at 7.45pm - doors open at 6.30pm
